“RN-Purneftegaz” is one of Rosneft’s key oil and gas production centers in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The enterprise was established to accelerate the development of a group of new oil fields in Yamal. In 1995, “Purneftegaz” became part of Rosneft, becoming one of the Company’s first producing assets.

Over four decades, the oil workers of RN-Purneftegas have put into operation 18 fields, producing more than 280 million tons of oil and gas condensate, and over 138 billion cubic meters of gas. Thanks to the implementation of the gas program, the level of rational use of associated petroleum gas reaches 99%, which is one of the highest indicators in the industry.

The Tarasovo field, named after the drilling supervisor Andrey Tarasov, became the first in the production history of “Purneftegaz”. It was here that the first industrial oil was extracted from well No. 1458 at a depth of 2606 meters. Over 40 years, the well has become a legend: its total production exceeds 230 thousand tons. And today it remains operational and produces oil.

The establishment of the enterprise progressed at a unique pace: work was carried out day and night, with up to 500 meters of roadbed laid and up to 8,000 meters of rock drilled per day. Despite severe frosts—the temperature in December 1987 reached minus 50 degrees—during the first year of operation, the PurNefteGaz team extracted 876 thousand tons of oil. In three years, the enterprise reached an annual production volume of about 12 million tons of oil.

The new stage of the enterprise’s development is associated with the active development of Achimov and Jurassic deposits. A long-term project is being implemented at the Tarasovskoye field to develop formations with a depth of about 3,000 meters. Modern technologies are used for their extraction, including drilling horizontal wells with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing operations (MSHF).

New domestic technologies are actively being implemented at RN-Purneftegaz. Over five years, specialists have developed more than 190 projects to improve production efficiency with a total economic impact exceeding 7.7 billion rubles. The automated drilling management system is operating successfully, reducing drilling time by an average of 11.7 hours per well. A domestic rotary steerable system (RSS) has been introduced, allowing an increase in drilling speed and enabling the drilling of longer wells.

The company is implementing a pipeline reliability improvement program: since 2024, a contactless magnetometric method for diagnosing field pipelines has been introduced. The new domestic technology allows detecting changes in the magnetic field from a distance of up to 10 meters, which helps identify various defects. The new technology enables efficient inspection of pipelines where internal pipeline diagnostics cannot be performed.

More than 2.5 billion rubles have been allocated to environmental projects over the past three years. From 2021 to 2025, over 1.6 million pine seedlings have been planted on an area of 409 hectares. Over five years, more than 4.5 million juveniles of peled, common carp, muksun, and nelma have been released into the Ob River.

“RN-Purneftegaz” today is a systemically important enterprise of the region and one of the largest employers. Thanks to the successful work of “RN-Purneftegaz,” Gubkinsky appeared, becoming a base city for the enterprise. Currently, with the support of the oil workers, a city hospital, a children’s library, music and art schools, two swimming pools, the Palace of Culture and Sports “Neftyanik,” and residential complexes have been built. In 2025, a school with 800 places—the largest educational institution in the city—and a modern Ice Palace “Gubkinsky Arena” with an area of more than 6,500 sq. m and stands for 400 spectators were opened. The projects were implemented within the framework of the cooperation agreement between NK “Rosneft” and the Government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

For more than 20 years, RN-Purneftegaz has been implementing projects aimed at preserving the culture and traditional way of life of the indigenous peoples of the North. With the support of the enterprise, the national village of Kharampur—the cultural center of the forest Nenets—was revived; comfortable houses, a cultural and leisure center, a library, and a boarding school were built. Within the framework of the grant program, scientific research on nomadic preschool education is being conducted, and methodological materials “Trends in Nomadic Education” have been published. The project has made it possible to improve the system of preparing nomadic children for school and to implement new forms of organizing preschool education directly in the places where indigenous families of Yamal live and work. The enterprise supports the agricultural community “Kharampurovskaya,” which is engaged in breeding commercial fish species.

“RN-Purneftegas” is one of the largest taxpayers and key social partners of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

The enterprise continues to increase its resource potential, involve new deposits in development, and contribute to the region’s economy.
