Beijing, July 11 /Xinhua/ — The National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China on Saturday issued a “red” alert for heavy rain — the highest in the four-level weather warning system — due to Typhoon Bavi, the ninth typhoon this year, which is expected to make landfall in the early hours of Sunday on the eastern coast of China.

NMC warned that in several regions of the country, heavy and even extremely heavy rains are possible.

According to the forecast, from 2:00 PM Saturday to 2:00 PM Sunday, heavy rains are expected across a large part of the country, including Zhejiang Province, the northern part of Fujian Province, the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province, the southern part of Anhui Province, as well as in some areas of Beijing and Hebei Province.

According to the NMC, the maximum total rainfall may reach from 250 to 500 mm in some areas of the eastern and southern parts of Zhejiang Province and the northern part of Fujian Province, as well as from 250 to 800 mm in some areas of the central and northern parts of Taiwan Island. -0-
