An external expert commission (EEC) from the Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency (NAAR) (Kazakhstan) is working at Novosibirsk State University from October 19 to 21, 2026. The purpose of the event is to assess the compliance of three NSU educational programs — the specialist degree in “General Medicine” and the residency programs in “Dermatovenereology” and “Endocrinology” at the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) of NSU — with international and European quality standards. The result of the examination will be NSU obtaining international accreditation, which is part of the university’s campus policy implementation, will contribute to increasing NSU’s prestige at the global level, and will increase the number of international students. This is the first time in NSU’s history that the university undergoes the procedure of international accreditation of educational programs.

Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency NAAR — a leading international accreditation agency for quality assurance in education (founded in 2011). NAAR is included in the European Quality Assurance Register EQAR and is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education ENQA.

— Obtaining international accreditation will contribute to promoting NSU in the international educational market and increasing the university’s appeal to foreign applicants. It is also one of the tools for integrating the university into the global educational agenda: the presence of international accreditation simplifies the process of transferring foreign students from other universities to NSU and vice versa. Additionally, it enhances the competitiveness of graduates from our medical programs, as it will be easier for them to validate their diplomas abroad. — commented Yulia Samoylova, director of IMMT NSU.

Experts will work at NSU for three days. The first day includes meetings with the rector, vice-rectors, heads of units responsible for the educational process and living conditions of students, the planning and financial department, and the accounting office, which handle the university’s financial model; meetings with those responsible for implementing educational programs, department heads, and faculty members. At the end of the first day, there will also be a tour of the facilities of the second phase of the university’s new campus, being constructed under the national project “Youth and Children” — the educational and scientific center of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies, which opened on September 2, and the research center.

On the second day, experts will visit clinical bases involved in the practical training of students — these include Professor Pasman’s Clinic, the Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Lymphatology (RICECL) — a branch of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS, as well as the Dermatovenerologic Dispensary. In addition, meetings will be held with students, graduates, and employer representatives. The third day is the final one, during which the experts will analyze the collected information and meet with the university leadership to present preliminary results.

— The international accreditation by NAAR allows the university to strengthen its position in the higher education market and expands opportunities for international cooperation, increases its competitiveness among students, including international ones, and also simplifies the creation of joint programs with foreign universities. In addition, international accreditation provides additional opportunities for students and graduates: recognition of diplomas and degrees awarded in other countries; real opportunities for transfer, participation in exchange programs, and continuing education (admission to master’s or doctoral studies) at foreign universities; increased competitiveness of graduates in the international labor market, — noted Alisa Djakenova, head of medical projects for institutional and specialized accreditation of medical educational organizations at NAAR.

Before the visit of the external expert commission, the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies at NSU prepared self-assessment reports, in which university specialists independently analyzed educational programs for compliance with standards. The EEC uses these materials to conduct an independent examination.

— This year, our new educational and scientific center of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies at NSU became operational; by the end of the year, permission for commissioning the research center will be obtained. Thanks to the opening of modern facilities, new opportunities will arise for training specialists in medical and psychological fields, as well as for creating promising scientific and technological developments. Undoubtedly, this will become another factor contributing to the increased attractiveness of NSU for international students, — concluded Yulia Samoylova.

The results of the VEK’s work will be known in December. Subsequently, NSU plans to carry out international accreditation for other educational programs as well, not only in medical fields.
