Top management of PJSC “KAMAZ” tested new trucks under real conditions. Fifty company executives personally took the wheel of 100 vehicles to assess their features and quality.
On Sunday morning, the territory of the automotive giant became a single test site for equipment, and the leaders of KAMAZ became test drivers. The top officials of the factories and divisions, chief designers, and technologists took part in extensive joint truck tests.
“We want to know our products even better, their consumer properties, so today we are all participating in the run-in, – explained First Deputy General Director – Executive Director of PJSC KAMAZ Irek Gumerov. – To feel the consumer properties of the car, you need to drive it, not just work with the paperwork. After that, we will exchange opinions and work on improvements. Designers and technologists can discuss together, think about how to solve problematic issues. Joint testing is a good way to improve our product.”
He also reminded that testing vehicles is a longstanding practice for Kamaz’s executives. For example, the company’s CEO Sergey Kogogin regularly tests trucks himself, and he arrived at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum in an autonomous vehicle. “I sometimes joke that we have two highly qualified test drivers – Sergey Kogogin and the President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, – noted Irek Gumerov. – They always test the vehicles when they arrive at the training ground. Of course, feedback is also provided. They are experienced drivers who can professionally assess and give recommendations.
Irek Gumerov chose to test the new KAMAZ chassis for a garbage truck—a K5 generation vehicle with a robotic gearbox. “On this car, we are installing our own robotic 9-speed gearbox in series production for the first time. I wanted to see the cabin myself before the market launch, – explained the leader. – The gears shift quite smoothly. Thanks to the robotic gearbox, drivers will be less fatigued. And this is good for the car because the clutch and transmission operate in optimal mode. Irek Gumerov noted that today drivers’ demands for the cabin and its comfort are increasing – they want to work in vehicles where they get less tired. In the context of a driver shortage, it is important to take this into account.
Deputy General Director – Development Director of PJSC “KAMAZ” Eldar Shavaliev got behind the wheel of a KAMAZ-53501 truck. “It’s such a pleasure to drive our car!” – he shared his impressions. – I am behind the wheel of such a car for the first time, although I have driven the K4 and K5. I feel proud that we produce such equipment.
“Understanding what our product represents is important for managers, – emphasized chief designer of KAMAZ, director of the Scientific and Technical Center Evgeny Makarov. – From time to time, this needs to be done. You understand what needs to be worked on, what can be improved. At the same time, you get an idea of the car’s quality, comfort, and convenience.
Following the results of the equipment tests, a number of issues were identified that specialists will need to resolve together.
