The facade renovation of the historic mansion housing the “Garden Ring” museum (a branch) was completed in early October Museum of Moscow), subordinate to the metropolitan Department of Culture. The two-story building was constructed at the end of the 18th century on the foundation of stone chambers from the late 17th century.

“The facade repair work at the ‘Garden Ring’ museum building has been completed. The brick and white stone plinth of the building, the windows, and the roof were also repaired,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the city’s Department of Culture

Alexey Fursin.

Monuments of Moscow Classicism

The building of the “Garden Ring” museum is a distinctive example of Moscow classicism. Its facade is decorated with fluted pilasters topped with Ionic capitals. The composition is complemented by a crowning cornice, stucco rosettes with vegetal ornamentation, lion head mascarons, and an elegant balcony.

In addition, work has been completed on the preservation of a federally significant cultural heritage site — the house of L.I. Dolgov, built in the second half of the 18th to 19th century. The building, designed by architect Vasily Bazhenov, possesses high historical and architectural value. It is one of the most well-known monuments of early Moscow classicism and a rare surviving example of an urban merchant estate from the second half of the 18th century.

The facade of the building is decorated with crowning and inter-floor profiled cornices, sandriks of a complex profile with garlands and keystone elements, stucco decoration, as well as an elegant dormer window on the roof, which is often called a “cuckoo” in construction terminology. Specialists repaired the building facades, dormer windows, as well as the white stone plinth.

During the facade work, special restoration materials and mortars were used. The repairs were carried out by certified specialists who preserved all architectural elements within the existing historical dimensions with utmost accuracy and meticulousness, including all details, such as patterns.
