Urumqi, September 16 /Xinhua/ — At the 2026 Digital Economy Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held Tuesday in Urumqi, the administrative center of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, a list of priority areas for cooperation and intentions in the field of digital economy within the SCO was announced.
The list covers areas such as digital infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, transportation, and logistics.
At the forum, it was also proposed to create a dialogue mechanism at the level of SCO countries’ ministers on issues of the digital economy.
As stated at the forum by Liu Lehong, head of the State Data Administration of China, over the past year China, together with relevant parties, has promoted the creation of a China-SCO digital economy cooperation platform. A number of practical cooperation results have benefited the peoples of various countries.
The official noted the need to deepen cooperation in the field of data management, ensuring the interconnectedness of digital infrastructure, project implementation, and training specialists in digital technologies. He also called for joint efforts to stimulate innovative development of artificial intelligence using data, promote industrial modernization, and simplify trade procedures.
Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO, Suhel Khan, stated that digitization has opened new opportunities for economic development and contributes to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation.
Promoting innovation in digital technologies and the application of their results, he said, serves the interests of all parties, contributes to achieving mutual benefit, and helps bridge the digital divide.
Thematic subforums were also held, dedicated to digital interconnectedness, digital trade, the application of digital and intelligent technologies in industry, as well as digital governance and capacity building. -0-
