Lanzhou, September 16 /Xinhua/ — Recently, Fujian Raysco Medical Technology Co., Ltd. and a local medical institution in Kyrgyzstan officially signed an agreement to jointly establish a High-Tech Proton Therapy Center for Tumors in Central Asia. The project is being implemented with the support of the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology of Lanzhou University and the Lanzhou University Advanced Research Center for Rare Isotopes, marking a major breakthrough for China in the field of its own nuclear medicine.
It has become known that the new center is one of the few high-tech oncological medical platforms in the world implementing an integrated dual-core configuration of a proton therapeutic system and a medical cyclotron. The project will allow the formation of a complete closed cycle of oncological diagnosis and treatment locally according to the scheme “diagnostics-drug administration-therapy”, fill a gap in the field of high-tech radiation therapy of tumors in Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region, and will also contribute to a leap in the potential for tumor diagnosis and treatment in Central Asia.
The project was developed by a team led by Professor Gu Lun from the Center for Advanced Research in Rare Isotopes and the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology at Lanzhou University. Gu Lun noted that Lanzhou University brought together leading scientific specialists in fields such as nuclear engineering, accelerator physics, oncology, precision manufacturing, and others, and completed a full cycle of technological breakthroughs – from the development of fundamental principles and proprietary key components to the systematic integration of all equipment, creating a solid research and personnel base in the field of nuclear medicine in the country.
