Moscow’s Olympiad teams will hold two open festivals for schoolchildren. On September 18, the Festival of Foreign Languages will take place at the Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship (RUDN), and on September 20, Astronomy Day will be held at the Museum of Cosmonautics. The Foreign Languages Festival is designed for students in grades 7 to 11. The program includes an introduction to Chinese painting and calligraphy, workshops on Japanese origami, yoga and wushu classes. Participants will attend lectures on the cultures of Vietnam and Thailand, as well as on the traditions of Arab holidays. Additionally, experts will discuss modern methods of learning foreign languages, including the use of neural networks, and will share information about educational opportunities at leading linguistic universities in the capital.
Astronomy Day will be held for students in grades 5-11. One of the central topics will be preparation for Olympiads. Vladimir Fedorov — a former member of the Moscow team, graduate of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and currently a teacher and active researcher — will share his experience. He will talk about the importance of maintaining a connection with the team and explain what motivated him to return to working with a new generation of Olympiad participants.
As part of Astronomy Day, schoolchildren will have the opportunity to observe celestial bodies through telescopes, participate in a quiz on the exhibits of the Cosmonautics Museum, and take part in themed workshops. The children will study the principle of sundials, learn how they are used to determine time, and understand why the design of such clocks differs in various countries.
Festivals will help students better understand how the olympiad teams operate and get an idea of the system for preparing for competitions.
