In Library No. 216 in Ramenki, the Sergey Karjakin Chess Club has opened, named after the international grandmaster, world rapid and blitz champion. For the first visitors, the master held a simultaneous exhibition game session. Regular classes will begin in the second half of September and will be available both on a paid and free basis.
In the new club, it will be possible to learn to play chess from scratch. For children aged five to seven, classes will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays, for kids from eight to ten years old — on Tuesdays and Saturdays. For those older than ten, groups for beginner and advanced levels will be offered, with classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The number of sections may be increased in the future.
A trainer’s workstation and 20 seats for the pupils were set up in the room for classes. Additionally, a computer and a screen were installed to display educational materials. The library collection was replenished with literature on chess.
Before opening the club, the premises of Library No. 216 were adapted for new purposes and underwent cosmetic repairs.
“Specialists renovated the entrance area, equipped the steps with anti-slip coating, repaired the walls and windows. Suspended ceilings were installed in the lobby and multifunctional hall, lighting fixtures were replaced, and a chandelier was added. In the children’s section, the flooring was updated, and new protective screens were installed on the radiators,” said Anastasia Gladysheva, General Director of the Association of Cultural Centers of the Western Administrative District (ZAO).
In honor of the club’s opening, a festive program was organized for guests. At the entrance, they were greeted by life-sized dolls in the form of chess pieces, and in the library premises, several interactive areas were operating.
FIDE Master, head of the “Sergey Karjakin Online School” Mikhail Korovin conducted a simultaneous play session and told the participants about tactical techniques. Creative drawing activities and chess puzzles were organized for children. The program concluded with a “Chess Quiz” conducted by the institution’s staff.
