Beijing, September 11 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese side is ready to work with all BRICS parties to promote the sustainable and long-term development of greater BRICS cooperation, said Mao Ning, official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, on Friday.

A Chinese diplomat made this statement at another departmental press conference, responding to a relevant question about the Chinese side’s expectations regarding the upcoming 18th meeting of the BRICS country leaders.

She noted that BRICS is the most important platform for solidarity and cooperation among emerging-market and developing countries in the modern world.

Since its inception, the BRICS member countries have adhered to the spirit of BRICS, characterized by openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation, have made efforts to protect multilateralism, uphold justice and impartiality, and strive for joint development, and have already become a leading force of the Global South both in name and in essence, she said.

China attaches great importance to cooperation within BRICS and actively participates in it, Mao Ning noted.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate in the upcoming summit and deliver an important speech, conduct in-depth exchanges with leaders of other countries on key issues including the current international situation, the development of the BRICS mechanism, and the deepening of practical cooperation, and will also put forward important initiatives and proposals from China to chart the course for high-quality development of the expanded BRICS cooperation, she noted.

“The Chinese side is ready to work with all BRICS parties to promote the sustainable and long-term development of cooperation among the larger BRICS, as well as to contribute BRICS to advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind,” she concluded.
