More than 1.5 million residents of the capital have already joined the health care program ‘Moscow Checkup,’ with 700 thousand of them having completed the first stage. According to its results, the most common health risks for Muscovites were heart conditions, gastrointestinal diseases, and diabetes. To assess the likelihood of developing diseases, residents were assigned more than three million in-depth laboratory and instrumental tests. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development. Anastasia Rakova.

… framework of telemedicine consultations and determines the further track of diagnostics and treatment. To date, about 1.5 million Muscovites have started undergoing the “Moscow Checkup,” and 700 thousand have already completed the first stage. We see that a fairly large number of people are found to have risks of developing diseases. For example, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diabetes mellitus, and various cardiac pathologies. To check these risks, to date we have prescribed more than three million tests, which allow us to assess health status, further treatment, and provide lifestyle recommendations,” noted Anastasia Rakova.

Based on the online part of the “Moscow Checkup,” algorithms identified risks of heart pathologies in almost half of the city residents. In 40 percent, the likelihood of developing gastrointestinal diseases was detected, and in 30 percent — diabetes mellitus.

Most often, users were given referrals for examinations of the liver, kidneys, thyroid gland, as well as the degree of damage to cells and tissues of the body. For example, 66 percent of checkup participants received referrals for blood tests for liver enzymes. Another 63 percent received referrals for tests that allow assessment of the speed and efficiency of the kidneys in cleansing the blood of metabolic waste products, and 54 percent received referrals for analyses that help determine the extent of damage to cells and tissues, such as in liver cirrhosis or myocardial infarction. Previously, some of these examinations could only be done in private clinics or upon a doctor’s referral.

How to undergo a check-up

“Moscow Checkup” is a new health care program that combines medical examinations, the federal healthy longevity program, and an extended Moscow screening package into a single personalized prevention route. The checkup begins remotely via the “EMIAS.INFO” mobile application: the user fills out a questionnaire about their well-being and lifestyle, and if necessary, additional surveys and functional tests are completed. They also enter body composition data obtained using smart scales or bioimpedance devices available at city locations.

The system matches this information with data from the electronic medical record, takes into account previously completed studies and identified risk factors, and then automatically generates an individual list of tests, examinations, and consultations. You can sign up for them online and undergo them at the city polyclinic. Muscovites receive personalized recommendations, and if abnormalities are detected, a referral for a consultation and further diagnostics. The program is available to all adult residents registered with the city’s polyclinics.

The extended package is not the same for everyone. The system personally selects the scope of diagnostics necessary for a specific individual. Therefore, participants of the same age may receive different sets of appointments. All examinations are conducted free of charge, under the mandatory health insurance policy (OMS).

It was possible to assess certain health indicators and start a check-up while walking around the city. Within the framework of the project “Summer in Moscow” Interactive health pavilions operated in the city center — on Nikitsky Boulevard, Trubnaya Square, and VDNH. Here, anyone could undergo a free express diagnostic in 15–20 minutes using modern equipment with artificial intelligence technologies, use neurofitness stations and simulators to assess reaction and grip strength, and also learn from MFC staff how to start the “Moscow Checkup.”

It was possible to get acquainted with the capabilities of the “Moscow Checkup” within the framework of the “Night at the Polyclinic” — a new city project that combined health care and a cultural program. About 20,000 residents and guests of the capital joined it over two evenings. The event became part of the project “Summer in Moscow”.

Moscow has been engaged in the digitalization of the healthcare system for more than 10 years. The foundation of this process has been a unified digital platform, which is being developed by the capital Department of Health and Department of Information Technology. The unified pathway reflects the philosophy of healthy longevity. Digital solutions help to continuously support a person — from the first complaint and diagnosis to treatment, evaluation of its results, and subsequent follow-up. This approach aligns with the objectives of the national project “A long and active life”. More details about Russia’s national projects and the capital’s contribution can be found at special page.
