Beijing, September 8 /Xinhua/ — In January-August 2026, China’s foreign trade maintained rapid growth: both exports and imports showed steady growth, with import growth rates still outpacing export growth rates, according to official data released on Tuesday.

The total volume of goods imports and exports increased by 17.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 34.78 trillion yuan /approximately 5.13 trillion US dollars/, with the growth rate being 0.3 percentage points faster than in the first seven months of this year, according to the General Administration of Customs of China.

In particular, exports grew by 14.6 percent to 20.17 trillion yuan, and imports increased by 22 percent to 14.61 trillion yuan.

In August, China’s foreign trade turnover amounted to 4.65 trillion yuan, which is 19.8% more than a year earlier. Exports showed a growth of 18.6%, imports – 21.7%.

As official data show, for four consecutive months the growth rates of both exports and imports have been characterized by double-digit figures. -0-
