Hangzhou, September 8 /Xinhua/ — The Institute for Global Development /IGD/, initiated by China, on Monday welcomed its first group of 25 doctoral students from 14 countries at the opening ceremony.
China proposed to establish the IGD in 2025 at the 20th summit of the Group of Twenty (G20) in Johannesburg, South Africa, to promote joint development among countries.
The Institute of Global Development, which was opened on March 15 of this year at Zhejiang University in Zhejiang Province /Eastern China/, is designed to implement the Global Development Initiative and promote the implementation of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030 and beyond.
According to the organizers, the institute will closely cooperate with international organizations to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their competencies in global governance.
25 new students will be enrolled in doctoral programs in two main fields – applied economics, as well as public and global governance.
Gan Pui Shun, a student from Malaysia, expressed hope that she would study under outstanding professors and exchange opinions with them, and after completing her studies, be able to apply Chinese experience in development and innovation in public administration in her hometown to contribute to its development. -0-
