In 2030, one of the most important events in the history of medieval Rus will be widely celebrated in Russia – the 650th anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo. September 21, the date of the victory of the Russian regiments led by Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy over the Mongol-Tatar troops, is a Day of Military Glory of Russia, established by the Federal Law of the Russian Federation “On Days of Military Glory and Commemorative Dates of Russia.”
At the book exhibition organized in the scientific and technical library of SPbGASU, documentary sources highlighting key moments of this battle are being showcased. The exhibition materials are divided into several important historical sections.
In the section “Prince Dmitry Donskoy and Sergius of Radonezh” Publications about the life of the Grand Duke and his visit to the Trinity Monastery, where Venerable Sergius blessed the ruler for the battle against Mamai and foretold victory for the Russian army, are presented.
“The Feat of Peresvet and Oslyabya”: Manuscript sources from different years carefully preserve the memory of the brave monks sent by Sergius of Radonezh to assist the prince. The legendary duel of Peresvet with the Tatar warrior Chelubey before the beginning of the main battle became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and spiritual strength, leaving a deep mark in all forms of art – in prose, poetry, and painting.
Section “The course of the battle and heroes dedicated to scientific and artistic publications that detail the reconstruction of the tactics of Russian regiments, the maneuvers of the ambush regiment, and the key stages of the Battle of Kulikovo Field.
The grand events of those days were widely reflected in art. Albums with creative works by architects and artists vividly characterize the distant heroic times of our Fatherland. The exhibition is adorned with publications dedicated to the projects of new commemorative objects and the “Kulikovo Field” museum complex – unique structures that combine historical memory, spiritual traditions, and modern museum technologies.
