Guangzhou, September 7 /Xinhua/ — Chinese tech giant Huawei on Monday introduced the three-section foldable smartphone Mate XT 2, powered by the new Kirin 9050 Pro chip. This is the first high-performance processor to use logical folding technology.
As reported at a presentation in Guangzhou, the administrative center of Guangdong Province /South China/, the Kirin 9050 Pro places logical blocks layered inside a single chip, which reduces signal transmission paths, lowers latency, and increases overall performance.
The last time Huawei introduced a new Kirin chip was at a flagship launch six years ago – during the global premiere of the Mate 40 smartphone. In recent years, the company has continued to innovate and explore new horizons.
The company’s expenses on research and development (R&D) sharply increased, reaching 121.38 billion yuan (17.9 billion US dollars) in the first half of 2026, marking a record for this period and amounting to more than a quarter of revenue.
