On September 5 and 6, Moscow will celebrate its 879th anniversary. Parks, museums, libraries, theaters and other platforms They have prepared large-scale programs, but that is far from all. Draw your Moscow in 45 minutes
All season long, art workshops operate on Strastnoy, Petrovsky, and Chistoprudny Boulevards as part of the “Summer in Moscow” project. For City Day, they prepared the program “Happy Birthday, Moscow!” — 60 free plein airs that will acquaint residents with the capital’s history through artistic techniques.
Classes take place every hour: starting from 12:00, with no prior registration required — just come and take a place at the easel. In 45 minutes, participants not only create their own work but also learn interesting facts about the capital.
At the “Historical Moscow” master class, participants paint with watercolors the Benkendorf house at the corner of Strastnoy Boulevard and Bolshaya Dmitrovka. The instructor tells the story of this 1799 building, where the fabulist Ivan Krylov lived and worked in 1805. At the “Pushkin Places” master class, they introduce the sfumato technique — it is also called “painting without lines and boundaries, like smoke.” Participants learn the legend of young Pushkin and the mechanical cat, who could have been the prototype of the Bayun cat.
Up to 10 people can work at the easels simultaneously. Participants are given watercolor paper or canvases in A3 format. It is possible to engage as a whole family — often family competitions unfold at neighboring easels to see who produces the better drawing.
History lessons at the Victory Museum
On September 5 and 6, the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill invites you to remember important historical events. During the holiday and on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow, free tours of the exhibition “The Battle of Moscow. The First Victory!” will be organized here. They will take place every hour from 10:20 to 18:20 (according to registration). Visitors will learn how the capital lived during the harsh wartime years, about the feats of the people’s militia and the Podolsk cadets, as well as about the Kremlin’s camouflage.
On September 5 at 3:00 PM, an intellectual game “Eruditorium” on the theme “Moscow is With Us” will take place. Participants will be asked questions about the Battle of Moscow and the history of the capital. At 4:00 PM, a free screening of the musical film story “Hello, Moscow!” (1945) about the life of Moscow youth in the first post-war months is scheduled.

In honor of City Day, special offers have been prepared at Moscow fairs. On September 5 and 6, discounts on fresh products and farm delicacies are available at 25 venues across the city.
Thus, on Altufyevskoye Highway (site 30g), there will be a 25 percent discount on sausages from Tolyatti. On Profsoyuznaya Street (site 41), when purchasing three or more meat products, a dozen eggs will be given as a gift, as well as discounts on processed cheese and cottage cheese from Ryazan and raclette from Kostroma. On Otradnaya Street (site 16) and Koptevsky Boulevard (site 18), a 20 percent discount will be available on the entire range, and on Orekhovy Boulevard (site 24), there will be a lottery during which honey from different regions will be raffled off. At Semyonovskaya Square (site 4), shoppers will receive a 10 percent discount on cheeses from Veliky Novgorod, and at the fair near the Alma-Atinskaya metro station, on farm vegetables from the Tambov region.
