Beijing, September 3 /Xinhua/ — From August 10 to 31, China conducted a comprehensive marine geophysical survey in the sea area east of Taiwan Island, the Ministry of Natural Resources of China reported on Thursday.
The study was conducted by the Second Institute of Oceanography under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the PRC with the aim of comprehensively investigating the main geological and tectonic features of the seabed in waters under China’s jurisdiction, as well as to contribute to the creation of a digital platform for natural resource management and territorial spatial planning.
The study collected baseline data on the marine seabed environment, including seabed topography, sediment layers, deep geological structure, and geophysical fields.
According to the agency, this research allowed China to better study the geological and geophysical properties of the seabed in the waters east of Taiwan Island, to collect data for geological studies on sedimentation and tectonic structures of the seabed, as well as on the structure of deep layers of the Earth’s crust and the geodynamic evolution in this region.
In addition, the study results also provide scientific justification for China’s integrated management of waters under its jurisdiction in this region. -0-
