The government has approved the updated Strategy for the Development of the Automotive Industry until 2035. The main objectives outlined include achieving a production volume of at least 2.8 million vehicles across all segments and increasing the level of technological independence.

One of the significant directions of the updated strategy is the development and support of the auto components industry. The document, in particular, notes the need to unify the component base to ensure economically efficient production and supply sufficient to meet the needs of Russian automakers, taking into account commitments to deepen localization.

The strategy also highlights the importance of increasing labor productivity in the industry through the automation of production processes, the necessity of securing intellectual property rights for Russian companies and enterprises, and the need for further development of the highly automated vehicle segment. To accomplish these objectives, a structure with priorities for providing state support measures has been established.

To enhance the efficiency of development of technologies, raw materials, materials, and automotive components, ensure coordinated work of all industry participants, as well as implement priorities of scientific and technological development, it is planned to create a technological cooperation map in the automotive industry, including through the use of the chief designer institution.

Commenting on the approval of the updated strategy at at the meeting with the deputy prime ministers on August 31, Mikhail Mishustin noted that thanks to previously made decisions, industry enterprises are functioning steadily. “Last year, their total production volumes reached 830 thousand machines, which is more than twice the level of 2022, when unprecedented sanctions were imposed,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
