A new city project – a sports and cultural run – will start operating in Moscow on September 5 “Museum Mile”, which will combine sports, history, architecture, and the cultural heritage of the capital.

The length of the routes was chosen deliberately. This year, Moscow turns 879 years old. Adults will need to complete the distance within a maximum of 2.5 hours, while young Muscovites are expected at the finish no later than 30 minutes after the start of the race. Participants will start and finish at the New Tretyakov Gallery. Entertainment events, interactive areas, and rest zones for spectators and race participants will also be organized there.

The route will pass through the Art Park ‘Muzeon’, Bersenevskaya, Sofiyskaya, and Kadashevskaya embankments, Balchug Street, and the Repinsky Square area. Along the way, participants will see more than 30 museums, historic buildings, and public spaces, turning the sporting distance into a real journey through different eras.

Athletes will also experience immersive audio accompaniment: throughout the entire route, they will be able to listen via headphones to a specially prepared play voiced by theater and film actors. The production will introduce participants to the history of the route’s iconic locations and allow them to see familiar urban spaces from a new perspective.

An additional feature will be support islands with animated scenes. At key points along the course, professional actors will appear as characters referencing the history and culture of Moscow. They will greet athletes, create the atmosphere of a live urban performance, and encourage participants on their way to the finish line.

“Moscow consistently develops projects that make sports a part of urban culture and daily life. The ‘Museum Mile’ is a vivid example of how a sporting event can open up new routes for residents and guests of the capital, introduce them to the city’s history, and unite people around a healthy lifestyle. We are confident that this new project will become a good tradition and take a worthy place in the calendar of city events,” said Denis Annikov, director of the ‘League of Heroes.’

Registration for all race distances with start packet distribution will open on September 4 and will take place from 12:00 to 20:00. On the competition day, September 5, registration will be available from 10:00 to 12:00. At 14:00, the fan zone will open, and the entertainment program will start at 14:30.
