Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin held a working meeting with the Governor of Saint Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, during which issues of the city’s socio-economic development were addressed, as well as the work within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life” was discussed.
“Saint Petersburg is one of the key centers of the country’s economic growth. Systematic work is being carried out here to develop territories and improve the quality of life for citizens. The meeting discussed housing construction issues—there is a need to increase the pace here. Regarding road activities, the region has fairly high indicators. As of today, the share of Saint Petersburg’s regional roads meeting regulatory standards is about 71%, which is above planned values. The share of backbone network roads in regulatory condition also exceeded target benchmarks and reached 85.17%. The pace is good and must not be lost. In addition, with Alexander Dmitrievich, we reviewed the project for the new ring road—KAD-2, which is under the President’s control. The project is indeed necessary for residents. The new bypass will take on transit flows and relieve the existing ring,” said Marat Khusnullin.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that Saint Petersburg effectively utilizes mechanisms of government support. For example, through infrastructure budget loans, a transport interchange on the Western High-Speed Diameter was put into operation, infrastructure objects of the metro were built, and the city’s public transport fleet was upgraded – 77 trams were delivered. The implementation of these projects yielded an additional socio-economic effect: 3.8 million square meters of housing were put into use, about 2.7 thousand jobs were created, and 57.4 billion rubles of non-budgetary investments were attracted.
“Under the leadership of the President of Russia, we are developing St. Petersburg as a metropolis of the 21st century. The systematic work of the city government and support from the federal center help to improve one of the largest transport hubs in the country, ensure the connectivity of territories, and provide a new quality of mobility for millions of residents. Among our priorities are the comprehensive development of the metro, modernization of the road network, construction of new high-speed highways, and modern transport interchanges that form the framework of the agglomeration of the future. Major infrastructure projects are being implemented at a rapid pace: the Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge, the Latitudinal High-Speed Traffic Artery with a new bridge over the Neva River, and the high-speed tram line Kupchino – Shushary – Slavyanka. Important facilities such as the Southern Latitudinal Artery and the M-32 highway, as well as the Tsimbalinsky Road Overpass, are actively under construction. We are not just building modern roads and repairing bridges. We are completing the formation of a transport framework that will serve the city and its residents for many years,” said the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov.
In addition, thanks to the funds from the National Welfare Fund, the first phase of construction of the second line of the main sewer collector has been completed.
