After the completion of repair work in the south of the capital, Children’s Library No. 155, located on Guryevsky Drive, will reopen to visitors.
A celebration for the creative and curious
On the opening day, August 22, young readers and their parents will be able to participate in the program “Read. Dream. Create.” It will begin at 12:00 with an interactive tour of the renovated halls. Guests will learn interesting facts about the library, the Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye district, and will also have the chance to try their hand at being a librarian. At the same time, there will be a master class “Summer Juicy Sketch in Watercolor” on creating a book bookmark.
At 1:00 PM, the presentation of the project “Russian Fairy Tale: the Metaphysics of Jewelry and Scents” will begin. The children will not only read fairy tales but also try to experience them through their sense of smell. In the workshops, they will create a traditional Russian ornament — a kokoshnik, as well as their own unique perfume, invent a name for it, and a little story.
The concert “Melody of Childhood” by the Allegro show theater will begin at 14:00. At the same time, board game enthusiasts will participate in the “Yaigrunya” master class. They will be introduced to the best educational board games for different ages. The series of master classes will continue at 15:00 with a theatrical art session “Voice, Body, Emotion: Training for the Beginning Actor.” Young visitors will be shown simple but effective methods for breath control, managing voice volume and intonation, and will be taught how to truly experience emotions on stage rather than just portray them. Additionally, at 15:00, the “Design Bureau” will open. There, children will learn the basics of modeling and construction, make and launch models of various flying devices — from kites to rockets.
At 4:00 PM, children’s writer Valentin Postnikov — author of books about the adventures of Karandash and Samodelkin — will visit the young readers. The children will watch an episode of the film magazine “Yeralash,” based on his stories, have the chance to ask the writer questions, and get an autograph.
At 5:00 PM, a family origami master class “Folding Together” will begin, as well as an open rehearsal “Step Forward: Recharge with the Energy of Rhythm” — everyone interested will be taught how to dance hip-hop, freestyle, and breakdance. A tasting of jam and preserves with fragrant tea from a samovar awaits guests at 6:00 PM. At the same time, they will participate in a mini-game “Guess the Berry.” At 7:00 PM, a prize draw will begin — books, board games, and creative kits. Throughout the day, there will be a presentation of children’s magazines and an art exhibition.
Those interested will be able to enroll in creative studios and associations that will operate in the library in the 2026/2027 season. According to Margarita Kotelnikova, head of Children’s Library No. 155, in the new academic year, an origami club for children will start, as well as a dance studio “Lady Dance” and yoga classes for adults.
“The opening of the library is an important event for the residents of the district. We have tried to create a space where children and their parents will enjoy spending time, reading, engaging in creative activities, and participating in educational programs. I am confident that the renovated library will become a popular place for family leisure and socializing,” said Margarita Kotelnikova.
New possibilities for creativity
After the major renovation, the library was transformed both inside and out. Specialists repaired the facade and roof, replaced the utility systems. The reading rooms were equipped with spacious shelves and comfortable furniture. In the media zone, computers with internet access and Wi-Fi can be used for free. The spacious halls with improved acoustics are designed for holding music classes, creative meetings, and lectures.
In addition, a unique workshop for scientific and technical creativity was equipped. Here, young inventors and engineers will create models of various flying machines—from kites to gliders and rockets. The children will also be able to study the laws of physics and aerodynamics. The “Shadow Theater” club has been provided with equipment necessary for staging performances. The costume room of the “Theater of Your Dream ‘Allegro'” has been replenished with more than 50 different costumes.
Opened in 1971, the library today houses a collection of over 23,000 items: works by contemporary children’s authors, domestic and foreign classics, children’s periodicals, books on the history of Moscow, educational and reference literature.
You can sign up for clubs and studios at the library, on the portal Associations of cultural and leisure centers (OKC) South Administrative District and through “Mosbilet.” Guests are awaited at: Gurevsky Drive, house 15, building 2, structure 2.
