Female students of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Urban Management at SPbGASU Elizaveta Sadovskaya, Darya Kazakova, Diana Ninelina and Emilia Safiulina participated in the International Youth Environmental Festival “Yashel Adym — Green Step,” which took place in July in Almetyevsk at the Higher School of Oil.
The university representatives became part of the “EcoWave” and “EcoFauna” teams. Over the course of several days, festival participants attended educational lectures, met with leading experts in ecology, solved practical cases, took part in excursions, team competitions, and environmental campaigns.
The festival program was rich and covered a wide range of current environmental issues. The students became acquainted with modern technologies for rational water consumption, atmospheric air and water resources monitoring, studied approaches to climate regulation, energy efficiency improvement, and energy saving, as well as modern methods of forest restoration.
The first day of the festival began with a team-building training conducted by the director of the ANO “I am a Do-Gooder”, head of the regional branch of the All-Russian public movement “Cultural Volunteers” of the Republic of Tatarstan Gulfiya Mutugullina. Thanks to interactive tasks, participants quickly got to know each other and were able to form cohesive teams. Then, a quest game took place around the campus grounds, allowing participants to get to know the festival venue better.
On the second day, participants attended the lecture “The issue of humane use of laboratory rats and mice in the course of conducting experiments,” which was delivered by an assistant of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University. Ruslan Rossomakhin. The speaker talked about the principles of ethical scientific research, existing alternatives to animal experiments, and the responsibility of researchers.
For participants of the “EcoWave” program, a tour of the water utility and treatment facilities was also organized, where students became acquainted with modern water purification technologies and its return to the natural environment. The day concluded with a team ecological relay race.
The third day was dedicated to practical work. Participants cleaned the area of garbage and then presented projects prepared based on solutions to environmental cases. The team that included SPbGASU student Diana Ninelina took third place. The day ended with an open dialogue with a Russian blogger and eco-activist, focusing on waste management and the development of environmental culture.
Throughout the festival, students also met with representatives of the professional community. The participants were shared experiences by the head of the environmental safety department of PJSC Tatneft Pyotr Kubarev, Director of Flexible Packaging Business at Danaflex-NANO Azat Galin, project curator of ‘Guardians of the Blue Lakes’ Elizaveta Sviridova and other experts.
“It was a very interesting trip packed with activities. Numerous educational lectures, excursions, and sessions with speakers helped broaden my horizons in the field of ecology, and based on the acquired knowledge, we tackled practical problems. I learned a lot of new things, met interesting people, saw how extensive this field of activity is, and understood which direction I can develop further in. Thanks to SPbGASU for the opportunity to attend such an event,” shared SPbGASU student Darya Kazakova.
According to Diana Nineline, the festival became not only a platform for gaining new knowledge but also a place to meet like-minded people from different cities and countries.
“There were many people from different cities and countries at the festival, each unique in their own way. We exchanged knowledge and experience, which then helped in solving the cases. The program was very intense — not a single minute was wasted. I especially want to highlight the organizers and curators: they were always in touch, helped the participants, and created a friendly atmosphere. The festival left only positive emotions behind,” noted Diana Ninellina.
Participation in the festival became an opportunity for SPbGASU female students to get acquainted with current environmental practices, acquire new professional knowledge, represent the university on an international platform, and establish useful contacts with future colleagues and industry experts.
