Beijing, July 27 /Xinhua/ — China has successfully rescued 47 of the 62 crew members from a Vietnamese vessel that was shipwrecked and sank on Friday evening due to adverse weather conditions in the South China Sea, an official spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, said on Monday.
China immediately dispatched ships and helicopters to conduct search and rescue operations after the distressed vessel was discovered. The injured received all necessary medical assistance, and all rescued crew members were handed over to the Vietnamese side, a Chinese diplomat said at a regular press conference, adding that Vietnam expressed gratitude to China.
