In the first seven months of 2026, the Russian school teams successfully performed at five major international academic Olympiads. Based on the results in biology, geography, physics, chemistry, and mathematics competitions, the students won 27 medals: 23 gold and four silver. The preparation of the students and their participation in intellectual tournaments were organized with the support of the Ministry of Education of Russia as part of the federal project “All the Best for Children” within the national project “Youth and Children.”
“Every medal won by our schoolchildren at international Olympiads is a great joy for the entire country. After all, such awards are a vivid confirmation that the synergy of talents, hard work, the highest professionalism of teachers, and parental care helps to bring dreams to life. It is important that the children have brightly distinguished themselves in the exact and natural sciences, fields that our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin pays special attention to. We also appreciate that intellectual stars are ignited not only in the capital but also in various regions of Russia. Within the framework of the national project ‘Youth and Children,’ the Government will continue to create conditions to unlock the potential of the younger generation so that it, in turn, can contribute to the development of domestic education, science, and industry,” noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.
“The successes of Russian schoolchildren in international olympiads are the result of systematic work on talent development, the high professionalism of our teachers and mentors, as well as the enormous efforts of the students themselves. It is especially significant that every participant of the main Russian teams returns with a medal. This is convincing evidence that the domestic education system fosters young people capable of achieving the best results on the world stage. Today they win at the largest intellectual competitions, and tomorrow it will be they who will develop Russian science and the economy, ensuring the technological sovereignty and competitiveness of our country. We will continue to support schoolchildren from all regions of Russia, helping each to unlock their abilities and realize themselves,” emphasized Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.
Russian schoolchildren achieved the greatest success in the natural sciences. At the 2nd Open International Biology Olympiad for schoolchildren, the main Russian team won six gold medals, and Timur Uzbekov, a student of Lyceum No. 19 in Togliatti, Samara region, became the absolute winner of the competition. At the 56th International Physics Olympiad, all five members of the Russian team were awarded gold medals. The team showed the same one hundred percent result at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad: all four participants received gold medals, and Arseniy Hasaneko from Moscow became the absolute winner.
High results were achieved by the teams in other disciplines as well. At the 2nd Open International Geography Olympiad, Russian schoolchildren won four gold and two silver medals, and the team was the best in the unofficial team standings. At the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), the team also received four gold and two silver medals, competing in person without restrictions for the first time in five years and taking third place in the team competition. Team member Arina Prokudina not only won gold but also became the best female participant in the world, receiving the Mirzakhani Prize at IMO 2026.
It should be noted that such achievements are a natural result of creating a training system for national teams. Throughout the year, the participants undergo training camps, perform at intermediate (training) international tournaments, improve practical skills, and prepare for the main intellectual competitions.
In 2026, the absolute winners were already participants from the Russian teams of the Avicenna International Biology Olympiad for schoolchildren and the International Cybersecurity Olympiad. At the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, the team took first place, winning 15 medals. From the Asian Physics Olympiad, Russian schoolchildren brought home eight medals, including four gold. At the International Scientific Physics Olympiad, the Russian team received the Grand Prix and five gold medals, and at the International Advanced Level Informatics Tournament, the schoolchildren won 12 awards, including eight gold.
Many participants in these tournaments have already confirmed their high level at five main international Olympiads. Thus, Vladislav Vladyko, Roman Ermak, Nikita Murzakov, and Stepan Yunusov, who previously became winners of the Avicenna International Biology Olympiad, were among the members of the Russian team at the Open International Biology Olympiad for schoolchildren and also won gold medals.
The gold medals of the international Olympiads are brought by team members who study in various regions of Russia. For instance, the absolute winner of the Open International Biology Olympiad was Timur Uzbekov from Togliatti (Samara region), Arina Prokudina from Chelyabinsk (Chelyabinsk region) won the gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad, Artem Yeremin from Kaliningrad (Kaliningrad region) distinguished himself as part of the physics team, and Maxim Bolshakov from Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan) received the silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Recall that in 2025, at the first five main olympiads, participants of the Russian teams won 25 medals — 18 gold, six silver, and one bronze. Throughout 2025, at the eight main international competitions, schoolchildren from Russia conquered 44 medals, including 33 gold ones. Over the last five years – 210 awards, of which 161 are of the highest standard.
