Beijing, July 21 /Xinhua/ — The total value of external licensing deals for innovative drug technologies in China in the first half of 2026 exceeded 100 billion US dollars, reaching a record high, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC (MIIT) reported on Monday.
China approved the release of 38 innovative pharmaceutical products to the market in the first half of 2026, including 31 developed by Chinese companies, Tao Qing, head of the Operations, Monitoring, and Coordination Office of the MPI, said at a press conference.

From January to June of this year, the added value of products from the largest pharmaceutical enterprises grew by 6.4 percent year-on-year, in particular, the production of biopharmaceutical products showed double-digit growth.
The value of the sector’s export shipments for the first half of the year exceeded 210 billion yuan / about 30.91 billion USD /, which is 9 percent more than a year earlier.
High value-added products, including chemical compounds and biopharmaceutical products, accounted for almost one-fifth of the total export volume, indicating an acceleration in the transformation of the export structure from active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to finished pharmaceutical products. -0-
