Chengdu, July 21 /Xinhua/ — In the first half of 2026, the volume of container freight train shipments from Sichuan Province /Southwest China/ as part of international freight transport along China-Central Asia routes increased significantly, the Chengdu branch of the state-owned enterprise “China Railway” /CR/ reported on Tuesday.
According to the data provided, during this period the total number of freight train dispatches on the China-Central Asia routes from this province amounted to 299, while the volume of container shipments in both directions reached 27,000 standard containers /TEU/.
In particular, the volume of container shipments from the province abroad has tripled, while in the opposite direction it has quadrupled.
Thanks to a number of measures to improve transportation efficiency, the time for transporting goods by trains of this category from Sichuan Province to Central Asia has been reduced by 2-3 days, and transportation costs have decreased by 15%, said Wen Chenchao, an employee of the logistics center of the Chengdu branch of the China Railway.
The above-mentioned department also added that since the beginning of this year, about 100 companies engaged in foreign trade activities in Sichuan Province have exported their goods for the first time via the China-Central Asia international freight routes. -0-
