Kinshasa, July 21 /Xinhua/ — The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo /DRC/ has risen to 2,423, of which 967 have been fatal, health authorities reported in the latest report.
According to the document, as of July 19, 734 patients remained in quarantine or treatment, while 469 people had recovered since the beginning of the fever outbreak.
Health authorities also reported a new infection zone — Adja in Ituri province, bringing the total number of such zones in five provinces to 47, with active transmission of the infection continuing in 46 of them.
On May 15, an outbreak of Ebola fever caused by the Bundibugyo virus was announced. Since then, the virus has spread to five provinces.
