Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — China has allocated 430 million yuan /about 63 million US dollars/ from central funds designated for disaster relief to support the efforts of 10 provincial-level regions in the country to combat floods and typhoons, the Ministry of Finance of China reported on Tuesday.
These funds were jointly allocated by the Ministry of Finance of the PRC and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR), the city of Tianjin, as well as the provinces of Zhejiang, Hebei, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Sichuan.
In particular, in addition to the previously allocated 190 million yuan, an additional 150 million yuan has been allocated to support the GCHAR located in southern China. The funds will primarily be used to provide shelter for the affected population, assist them in ensuring their livelihood during the transition period, and restore destroyed and damaged residential houses, in order to promote the rapid recovery of normal production and living conditions in the affected areas.
The remaining 280 million yuan will be allocated to support the other nine aforementioned regions in conducting search and rescue operations, evacuation and relocation of affected people, urgent hazard mitigation, as well as identifying and eliminating risks that could trigger secondary disasters, in order to minimize losses from natural disasters. -0-
