Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of China on Tuesday adopted a series of targeted measures to prevent floods in the northwestern regions of the country amid a new round of heavy rainfall.

From Tuesday to Friday, moderate to heavy rains are forecast in the eastern areas of northwest China, and in some areas of central Shaanxi Province, as well as in the central and southern parts of Shanxi Province, showers or heavy rains are expected.

An increase in water levels is expected in some sections of the middle reaches of the Yellow River and several of its tributaries, including the Wei, Fen, and Qin rivers, with water levels potentially exceeding danger levels in some small and medium rivers in rain-affected areas.

The ministry called on water management authorities in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces and the relevant river basin management agencies to strengthen monitoring, forecasting, and early warning, ensure the safety of reservoirs and sediment dams, and intensify efforts to prevent floods on small and medium rivers and eliminate the consequences caused by mountain torrents. -0-
