Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — The share of newly registered vehicles powered by new energy sources (NEV) in China in the first half of 2026 reached almost half, at 49.42%, which is 4.45 percentage points higher than the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Public Security of the PRC.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), 10.51 million new vehicles were registered in China from January to June, including 5.195 million NEVs. Additionally, 5.11 million new motorcycles were also registered in the country from January to June.
As of the end of June, there were 476 million vehicles in China, including 371 million cars. The number of vehicle drivers amounted to 567 million people, of which 533 million were car drivers.
The total number of NEVs reached 48.97 million, accounting for 13.19% of China’s vehicle fleet, with 68.77% of NEVs being purely electric vehicles (33.68 million units). -0-
