Beijing, July 14 /Xinhua/ — In the first half of 2026, 16 border entry-exit checkpoints in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /Northwest China/ conducted inspections of more than 2.408 million people, including 1.228 million departures and 1.18 million arrivals, with all three indicators increasing by 33.2%, 34.8%, and 31.6% respectively year-on-year, reported the Chinese daily newspaper “Xinjiang Daily.”
Since the beginning of this year, there has been a steady increase in both passenger flow and traffic flow through the Xinjiang checkpoints open to the outside world. In the first six months, the number of vehicles inspected at the above-mentioned border control points increased by 27.8 percent to 946 thousand units.
In the first half of the current year, the border control services of Xinjiang focused on continuously improving the efficiency of customs clearance of goods, which significantly increased the cargo turnover through the checkpoints of this region.
During the reporting period, the number of trucks passing through the Irkeshtam checkpoint increased by more than 57 thousand units per year. This figure grew by more than 30 thousand units at the Turgat checkpoint and more than 26 thousand units at the Alashankou checkpoint. At the Khorgos, Bakhtu, and Dulata checkpoints, this figure rose by more than 19 thousand respectively.
As for railway checkpoints, in the first six months, Xinjiang border control services inspected a total of 23 thousand incoming and outgoing trains, which is 6.8 percent more compared to the same period last year.
In January-June, the aforementioned services took comprehensive measures to stimulate the development of international tourism and cross-border road travel, effectively promoting humanitarian exchanges between the countries and regions involved in the joint implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative.
