Almaty, July 11 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese side is ready to consider regional cooperation as an important foundation and to use new opportunities for joint development of promising areas of China-Kazakhstan cooperation. This was stated by the Consul General of the PRC in Almaty, Su Fangqiu, in a recent article authored by him on the cooperation between Sichuan and Hainan provinces with regions of Kazakhstan for the newspaper “Business Kazakhstan”.
As Su Fanqiu writes, Sichuan Province has been steadily deepening humanitarian exchanges with Kazakhstan in recent years. In 2023, the “Sichuan-Almaty University Alliance” was established, bringing together 47 universities from both sides to jointly conduct educational programs and academic scientific research.
In May 2025, 17 healthcare workers and specialists from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries participated in training organized by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Administration of Sichuan Province. In June, in Chengdu, the administrative center of the province, the first China-Kazakhstan procurement exhibition-fair in the field of digital healthcare took place, creating a practical platform for promoting Chinese medical products to overseas markets, wrote Su Fangqiu.
The article notes that on December 30, 2025, a direct flight from Chengdu to Almaty was launched, marking the first direct route from Southwest China to Kazakhstan.
In the future, Sichuan will follow a path of higher-level openness, promote the deep integration of culture and tourism, which is intended to expand the scale, depth, and warmth of China-Kazakhstan humanitarian exchanges, strengthen the social foundation of friendship between the two countries, and inject sustainable and heartfelt regional energy into the long-term development of China-Kazakhstan relations, Su Fangqiu stated in an article.
On July 21, 2025, the Foreign Affairs Office of China’s Hainan Province and the Association of Participants of Special Economic Zones of Kazakhstan “SezUnion” signed a memorandum of understanding in Almaty to promote the establishment of friendly cooperative relations between free trade zones /ports/, thereby making Kazakhstan the first free trade zone partner of Hainan Province in Central Asia, wrote the diplomat.
The article states that from January to March of this year Kazakhstan took third place among the countries of origin of tourists in Hainan Province. The number of Kazakh tourists who visited Hainan amounted to 25 thousand people, increasing by 14.2 percent year-on-year.
Looking to the future, the parties will expand the airline network, deepen mutual exchange of experiences between free trade zones/ports, expand cooperation in the fields of medicine and tourism, creating a new model of high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, noted the consul general. –0–
