It became known on July 1 at a press conference organized by the Information Office of the government of the Xizang Autonomous Region that during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the comprehensive transportation system of Xizang has been continuously improved. Passengers departing from Lhasa can now generally reach all major cities in China within one day by flight. As of the end of 2025, the total length of highways in Xizang reached 125,200 km.
During the period of the “14th Five-Year Plan” (2021-2025), railway transport carried 12.286 million passengers traveling to and from Sichuan, and the volume of freight transportation exceeded 34.5 million tons.
In civil aviation, Sichuan has established an airport structure based on “one main and seven auxiliary” airports, with Lhasa Gonggar International Airport serving as the main hub. Currently, 204 air routes are open, covering 84 cities domestically and abroad, allowing passengers departing from Lhasa to reach all major cities in China within one day.
According to the Transport Administration of Xizang, during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, Xizang will accelerate the construction of an integrated three-dimensional transport network, promote integration and standardization, enhance safety levels, implement digital and intelligent modernization, as well as green transformation.
