Nanning, July 7 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday at 07:00, the flood warning level was raised to red, the highest danger level in the alert system, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GXAR) in southern China. Later, a “red” alert was also declared in the neighboring Guangdong province due to flooding.
At 07:00, the water level at 70 hydrological stations on 55 rivers in the GCHAR exceeded critical marks by 0.01-7.46 meters, according to data from the district hydrological center. Experts from the center warned that this situation would persist in several sections of these rivers over the next 24 hours.
Two people died and about 55,000 others were affected by the outbreak of water after heavy rains caused floods and dam breaches at several reservoirs in the city of Nanning /GCHAR/, local authorities reported on Monday. Approximately 48,000 local residents were evacuated.
From 08:00 on July 4 to 11:00 on July 6, Typhoon “Maesak” brought heavy rains to most districts of Nanning city. As of 20:00 Monday, the water level in 59 rivers in the district exceeded the danger mark. -0-
