Beijing, July 7 /Xinhua/ — Fang Hongwei, former secretary of the Xi’an Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China /CPC/, has been expelled from the party and dismissed from public service for serious violations of party discipline and laws, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
The joint statement of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the State Supervisory Commission of China states that the decision was made after an investigation into the case of Fang Hongwei, conducted with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.
Fan Hongwei, also a former member of the bureau of the CPC Committee of Shaanxi Province, lost ideals and beliefs, violated eight CPC Central Committee regulations on improving work style, manifested in unacceptable acceptance of banquets and invitations to tour trips, the statement notes.
Investigators also stated that he illegally owned shares in private companies, used his powers and official influence to obtain benefits for relatives, and also condoned or tacitly agreed to his wife’s use of his official position for personal gain.
He is also accused of abusing his position to obtain benefits for other individuals in areas such as contracting construction projects and selecting and appointing personnel, accompanied by the illegal receipt of large sums of money and valuables.
His illegal income will be confiscated, and his case will be handed over to the prosecutor’s office for consideration and initiation of criminal prosecution in accordance with the law, the statement says. -0-
