Baku, July 2 /Xinhua/ — The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan SOCAR has taken over from the British oil giant BP the functions of the operator of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) export oil pipeline, as well as the sole operator of the BTC and South Caucasus gas pipeline systems. This was reported by SOCAR on Thursday.

The ceremony dedicated to the transfer of operator functions and the 20th anniversary of the commissioning of the BTD took place at the Sangachal terminal.

SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey Gio Christofoli pressed a symbolic button marking the transfer of operator functions on all three sections of the BTC — in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
