Caracas, June 26 /Xin Hua/ — The death toll as a result of two powerful earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 920 people, 3360 were injured. This was reported on Friday by Jorge Rodriguez, the chairman of the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) of the country.
172 more people remain trapped under the rubble, 3007 were forced to leave their homes as a result of the disaster, added H. Rodriguez.
According to him, the earthquake damaged 383 buildings, including 13 hospitals and 25 shopping centers. Another 1002 structures sustained damage of varying severity.
As indicated by H. Rodriguez, by the second half of Friday, 871 foreign rescuers were involved in the operation to eliminate the consequences of the disaster and provide assistance.
Meanwhile, according to the data from a website created to receive reports of missing persons, as of noon on Friday, more than 50 thousand people are still listed as missing.
