From June 23 to 25, the 17th annual meeting of the new world leaders of the WEF (also known as the “Summer Davos”) will take place in Dalian. In the opinion of representatives of various circles, against the backdrop of sluggish growth of the global economy, prolonged geopolitical conflicts, and the rampant protectionism of China’s economy, thanks to the certainty of high-quality development, it brings stability and positive energy into a turbulent world, and the extensive opportunities opened up by Chinese modernization will contribute to the recovery of the global economy and inclusive growth worldwide.
Through the fog in search of new strongholds of the world economy
Fluctuations in energy prices, increased inflationary pressures, fragmentation of supply chains… Since the beginning of this year, geopolitical shocks have painfully affected the global economy, and uncertainty has cast a dark shadow over it.
In conditions of numerous factors of uncertainty, strengthening interaction and cooperation based on openness and inclusiveness becomes even more relevant. “The world needs more cooperation, not fragmentation,” says Professor of Economics at the University of South Africa Sinthive Madikizela, who believes that the current annual meeting provides leaders in politics, business, and science with an opportunity to discuss new drivers of growth, “green” recovery, and international cooperation.
China in the focus of attention: deciphering the path to “large-scale innovations”
This year, the main theme of the forum was “large-scale innovations.” At the center of the agenda were artificial intelligence, new energy sources, biomedicine, quantum technologies, and other advanced fields. The focus of attention was China’s practice in strengthening the potential of processing industries and enhancing the advantages of sectors through scientific and technological innovations.
From the textile industry to electronics, from automobile manufacturing to mechanical engineering – large-scale innovations in China continue to yield tangible results. The process of intellectualization and modernization of the processing industry is steadily developing, and comprehensive modernization of production chains finds expression in foreign trade indicators. In the first five months of the current year, China’s import and export volume showed double-digit growth. One of the key factors that allowed exceeding the forecasted values was the exact correspondence of the structure of Chinese industry to global demand — in particular, growing investments in IT and digital infrastructure. Bloomberg agency reports that active development of infrastructure for computing power for IT stimulates trade in high-tech products from China. Microchips and computer equipment make a significant contribution to the growth in import and export volumes.
Mutually beneficial cooperation and joint use of development opportunities with the whole world
This year marks the beginning of the implementation of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. This year, within the framework of the forum, a series of events is planned, dedicated to clarifying the main provisions of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, with the goal of conveying the country’s development concept to the world community, as well as jointly with other countries utilizing emerging opportunities and creating a shared future.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China intends to expand openness at a high level and open new horizons for cooperation and mutual benefit. The Chairman of the Malaysian Investment Development Agency Tengku Zafrul Aziz noted that China is constantly achieving new successes in the fields of “green” technologies, new energy vehicles, and the digital economy. This opens up broad opportunities for cooperation with developing countries, including ASEAN countries.
This is also a “golden” opportunity for transnational corporations wishing to strengthen their positions in the Chinese market and expand global industrial cooperation. “The Chinese market is irreplaceable,” Wu Chun told journalists, the executive partner of Boston Consulting Group in China. According to her, the vast scale of the Chinese market, the continuously growing industrial demand, as well as consumers’ ability to quickly adopt new technologies and products, provide an impetus for innovation and the development of transnational corporations.
An economics expert from Kenya, James Hikwati, noted that since the beginning of this year, leaders of many countries have increasingly visited China, thereby sending a signal — in conditions of turbulent international circumstances, China is regarded as a stable and predictable partner for dialogue and cooperation. The “Summer Davos” once again became a witness to this trend.
The “Summer Davos” forum gives the world the opportunity to clearly understand China’s commitment to innovation and high-quality development. China brings valuable confidence to the global economy and adds strength to it with its own development.
