A conference of staff and students was held at the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, at which a new composition of the Academic Council of SPbPU was elected.
Opening the conference, Polytechnic Rector Andrey Rudskoy reminded that according to the university Charter, the Academic Council is elected for five years. And now is exactly the expiration of the term of office of the current composition of the university’s main governing body. The chairman of the conference preparation commission, the first vice-rector of SPbPU Vitaliy Sergeev, reported on the preparatory activities carried out, as well as on the structure of the university’s Academic Council. According to the commission’s proposal, the total number of members of the Academic Council should not exceed 55. Members of the Academic Council by position include the rector, vice-rectors, directors of institutes, and the head of the military training center. The remaining members of the Academic Council are elected by the US at the conference by secret ballot.
Delegates approved the composition of the mandate and counting commissions. The chairman of the mandate commission, director of the Student Town of SPbPU Vyacheslav Olshevsky reported that 128 delegates from various university structures were elected to the conference, 106 were registered. Thus, the quorum sufficient to recognize the conference as authorized to make decisions on the agenda items was ensured.
After resolving organizational issues, the conference participants proceeded to the voting procedure. Ballots with the candidates’ names were distributed to delegates upon registration. The presented candidacies did not cause any objections, and the voting began.
After a short break, the chairman of the counting commission Pavel Zalazarov announced the results. There were 103 ballots in the ballot box. By majority vote, all 28 candidates were elected to the Academic Council.

The total number of members of the Academic Council amounted to 51 people.
Andrey Rudskoy congratulated the elected members of the Academic Council and emphasized that a significant event for Politechnika took place in a responsible period of transition to a new higher education system.
“The newly elected Academic Council is to make crucial decisions regarding the structure of the university, financial and organizational-management policies, and the approval of educational programs,— emphasized Andrey Rudskoy. —“Therefore, I ask you to take the formation of commissions and councils under the Academic Council seriously, because it is precisely on the shoulders of these people that the responsibility for the future of our university will lie.”
In accordance with the charter of SPbPU and the decision of the conference of employees and students, the new Academic Council of SPbPU started work on June 23, 2026. At the first meeting, the secretary and the presidium of the Academic Council were approved.
