Urumqi, June 23 /Xin Hua/ — A 38-year-old resident of the city of Khorgos in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /PRC, Northwest China/ Ma Zisi works as a driver, transporting cars of Chinese manufacture to Kazakhstan.
Ma Czi is engaged in such activity for several years already. He, along with other drivers, crosses the state border through the Khorgos automobile checkpoint driving Chinese-made commercial vehicles and, thus, delivers them to the designated places in Kazakhstan. After completing the vehicle inspection and transfer procedures, they return to China along a specific transboundary automotive route.
With the constant growth in demand for the export of Chinese cars, this method of delivery is becoming increasingly popular among foreign car importers. According to data, currently more than 2,000 people in Khorgos are engaged full-time or part-time in this type of activity.
“Although car delivery using car carrier wagons is more efficient, the current volume of export of commercial vehicles is large, therefore in addition to transportation by car carrier wagons, our work contributes to accelerating the pace of exports,” explained Ma Zi.
In 2025, 450 thousand units of commercial vehicles were exported through the Khorgos SEZ. It is the largest SEZ in China for automobile exports. According to Ma Qizhi, electric vehicles of Chinese manufacture have a good reputation in the Kazakhstan market, and many of them are also sold in other Central Asian countries.
At present, the daily number of export commercial vehicles passing through the KPP Khorgos has increased to more than 1,000 units. Now, Ma Czi travels between China and Kazakhstan about four times a week. “With the continuous improvement of the efficiency of customs clearance, we managed to save a lot of time,” he said.
According to the statistics of the Khorgos customs, focusing on improving the efficiency of customs clearance, the KPP administration has consistently put forward a number of reform and innovative measures, including the introduction of a “model for rapid customs clearance of export goods automobiles under conditions of autonomous management.”
In addition, through the “single window” for international trade, enterprises can pre-declare and independently generate exclusive QR codes for vehicles, which, by scanning these, allow goods vehicles to pass through checkpoints immediately without the need for the driver’s presence in the vehicle.
