Guyuan, June 23 /Xin Hua/ — More than 9,100 residents were evacuated in Guizhou Province /Southwest China/, as torrential rains struck many areas of the province starting Monday, local authorities said on Tuesday.
Among the affected areas, the city of Duyun, Qiannan-Bui-Miao Autonomous Prefecture / Guizhou Province, Southwest China / announced the suspension of school classes on Tuesday, as the city’s emergency response level to the flooding was raised from level 3 to level 2 early Tuesday morning.
No reports of casualties have been received so far.
The rains also disrupted power supply in some districts of this region; more than 1,000 power grid repair workers were dispatched for the prompt restoration of electricity supply.
According to data from the meteorological observatory of the Guizhou province, heavy rains fell on more than 20 county-level districts of the province from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, with rainfall exceeding 200 mm in four of them.
