New Delhi, June 23 /Xinhua/ — The 16th meeting of senior representatives of BRICS countries on security issues confirmed the commitment to multilateralism. This was stated on Tuesday in New Delhi by a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, head of the CPC Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office, Wan I.
As Van I noted, the participants of the meeting reached an important consensus regarding the maintenance of multilateralism, the advancement of political resolution of acute issues, and comprehensive counteraction to traditional and non-traditional security threats.
According to him, the event also demonstrated the overall support of the BRICS countries and the Global South for defending independence and autonomy, strengthening cohesion and mutual assistance, uniting even greater collective wisdom and coordinating more decisive joint actions.
As indicated by the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also demonstrated broad support for the continued use of mechanism meetings, maintaining communication and coordination on significant international and regional urgent issues, and the ongoing enrichment of cooperation content within the framework of the “Big BRICS.”
Van I reminded that next year China will take the chairmanship of BRICS. He expressed hope that all participants will meet again in China to further deepen cooperation in the political sphere and in the field of security among the member countries, to bring wisdom and the strength of BRICS to the cause of ensuring peace and security throughout the world.
