New Delhi, June 23 /Xinhua/ — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Tuesday in New Delhi with a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yi.
Van I will fly to New Delhi to participate in the 16th meeting of senior representatives of BRIKS countries on security issues.
During the meeting, N. Modi stated that India and China are ancient civilizations, connected by friendly exchanges over several millennia; both countries have held leading and prominent positions in the world for a long time.
In the current conditions, the parties should continue traditional friendship, maintain exchanges at a high level, promote practical cooperation, and protect the common interests of the countries of the Global South, noted the Prime Minister of India.
According to him, India supports China’s assumption of the BRICS presidency next year and is ready to cooperate with the CIS to further develop BRICS affairs.
Van I, in turn, stated that China and India, being the two largest developing countries and important members of the Global South, should play an exemplary role in promoting the cohesive strengthening of the states of the Global South.
China will continue to support India in fulfilling the responsibilities of the BRICS chair country, jointly promoting the deepening and practical implementation of cooperation within the framework of the association, the Chinese diplomat noted.
Van I confirmed that China is ready, together with India, to turn into reality the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, to constantly strengthen trust and dispel doubts, properly settle sensitive issues, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate the positive dynamics of Sino-Indian relations, and jointly promote the modernization process in each of the two countries.
