Moscow, June 23 /Xin Hua/ — Western and especially European elites are striving to revisit the results of the Second World War, seeking revenge and insisting that Russia capitulate, while Russia and its partners oppose this concept with the Eurasian security architecture, which is open to all Eurasian countries without exception. This was stated on Tuesday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
S. Lavrov made corresponding statements at the embassy roundtable on the topic “The Ukrainian crisis. The true goals and role of the West.”
“Yesterday we marked a tragic date in the history of our country — 85 years since the armed attack of Hitler’s Germany on the USSR. The enemy was defeated, but, as we are convinced, the lesson was not learned. It causes particular concern the aggressive revanchism of the current European elites, who have once again decided to ‘defeat’ our country. Moreover, it is Berlin that leads the way, heading the course towards the militarization of the European Union and officially announcing plans to make the German army the strongest again in Europe,” noted S. Lavrov.
“The degree of the West’s obsession with the desire to ‘defeat Russia’ is illustrated by statistics: according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, in 2025, to increase transfers to Ukraine, the volumes of official aid to the poorest countries in the world were reduced by more than 23 percent. All five leading donors — the USA, Germany, Britain, Japan, and France — limited their aid to the Global South. They limited it due to the fact that they are increasing assistance to Ukraine. Everyone can draw conclusions about the true priorities of the West,” noted S. Lavrov.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the West seeks to extend its influence on the development of energy and transport routes in Central Asia and the South Caucasus, as well as in East Asia.
As S. Lavrov emphasized, NATO already states that despite its statutory goal of defending the territory of alliance member countries, it has the right to operate throughout the entire Eurasian continent. “We oppose this approach with the concept of a comprehensive continental architecture of security and cooperation, open to all countries without exception located in Eurasia,” he noted.
In my opinion, the heads of the MID of the Russian Federation believe that the future of the world order depends on what position ultimately prevails: subordination to a single center or collective work and the formation of a balance of interests. Russia and its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other regional associations unequivocally choose the path of dialogue and confirm adherence to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter following the defeat of Nazism and militarism in the course of World War II, noted the head of the Russian foreign policy department.
“It is impossible to allow a revision of the outcomes of this very bloody war in the history of mankind and even more so the revival of the forces of evil that unleashed it. The vast majority of the world must realize their responsibility in this matter, defend the UN Charter, and oppose attempts to stop the objective historical process of forming a fair multipolar world order,” emphasized S. Lavrov.
