We continue to talk about the team behind “Priority 2030.” Today’s heroes are participants of the project “Digital Platform for Data Analysis of Transport Systems Using Hybrid Artificial Intelligence” under the leadership of the head of the laboratory “Industrial Flow Data Processing Systems,” Marina Bolsunovskaya.
The “Industrial Stream Processing Systems” laboratory began active work back in 2017. At that time, employees completed their first large projects for partners, as well as government contracts, including orders from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. At the same time, there was a sharp increase in the number of employees — from 30 to 120 people. Each platform project now has its own team with its own managers, team leads, testers, architects, and so on. Every year, new people join the project. Hiring depends on the tasks being solved.Last year there were many developers, and this year there are business analysts who analyze the needs of industrial partners to ensure the platform’s development is comprehensive.
The decision to launch the project was made together with the Vice-Rector for Research of SPbPU Yuri Fomin, when the idea arose to unite all developments of the Polytechnic University with artificial intelligence technologies. It is obvious that there should be a unified polytechnic, analytical, informational system in which all projects can be combined.
Last year, the platform united five projects carried out within the framework of the “Priority 2030” program on artificial intelligence — these are biomedicine, seismology, transport systems, hybrid models, and multi-agent systems.
After that, more than 20 additional software products were registered, which were combined into a single platform. This year it was officially registered with the Ministry of Digital Development as the platform of the Polytechnic University. Now the project team can offer partners a tested, sovereign platform.
This seemed insufficient, and a decision was made to register its own political brand. Thus, the “POLANIS” brand appeared (Political Analytical Information System). The system is designed for data management and calculations of computer modeling of production and technological processes using neural network technologies. It can be used in any field where methods of processing, analysis, modeling, and data visualization are applied.
Participation in the “Priority 2030” program gives the team the opportunity to see how other teams fulfill their tasks, achieve results that can also be used on the “POLANIS” platform. The first — “Priority” contributes to the development of directions in artificial intelligence. The second — thanks to the program, the team has the opportunity to quickly show prototyping of solutions and tasks that can be useful to industrial partners. They may come with an unstructured task, and will be shown similar solutions from other projects. The “Priority” also allows maintaining confidentiality, not transmitting commercial data, but at the same time, accumulating results necessary for scientific research.
“Priority” greatly influences education, allowing us to grow our own personnel. We let our platform be used in training. So, guys studying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree can test the platform’s capabilities on a specific case in the field of analytics or multimodal data processing. Thanks to the “Priority 2030″ program, we can unite science, education, and industry,” noted the project leader, head of the “Industrial Stream Data Processing Systems” laboratory Marina Bolsunovskaya.
