Tehran, June 16 /Xin Hua/ — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that the first round of negotiations on the final agreement between Iran and the USA will take place after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between them in Switzerland on Friday.
As reported by the state broadcasting corporation IRIB, A. Aragchi made this statement after a meeting with members of the economic committee of the Iranian parliament in Tehran the day after the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
She said that the meeting of the heads of the delegations of the two sides will probably take place on Friday.
A. Aragchi said that Iran completed work on the memorandum of understanding with the United States on Sunday evening, noting that the implementation of one part of the memorandum begins today, and the implementation of the other part — on Friday after the signing of the memorandum.
Negotiations on the final agreement must take place within a 60-day period, which can be extended, noted the head of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions will be discussed within the framework of the 60-day negotiations.
She said that the agreement could lead to an economic breakthrough for Iran, emphasizing, however, that “we should not tie our economy to such economic agreements through negotiations with the United States.”
According to the official news agency IRNA, the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that the country’s negotiation team will in no way deviate from the framework and policies established by Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The United States, Pakistan, and Iran early Monday morning announced the completion of preparations for a memorandum of understanding to end the war after several weeks of negotiations, adding that it will be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday.
