Almaty, June 14 /Xinhua/ — The relationship between China and Kazakhstan, based on the city, opens up an even broader path of accelerated development. This was stated by the Consul General of the PRC in Almaty, Su Fanqiang, in an article for the newspaper “Delovoy Kazakhstan,” in which he familiarizes readers with the regional cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.

As the diplomat writes, in recent years, with the joint promotion of the Chinese and Kazakh sides from Almaty, direct flights have been launched to such important cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Urumqi, Xi’an, Chengdu, Sanya, and others. The air Silk Road is becoming increasingly dense, and the friendship between China and Kazakhstan is growing stronger. Each route that crosses mountains and rivers not only shortens the distance between cities but also reflects the dynamic development of comprehensive, profound, and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

Beijing is the capital of China, the political and cultural center of the country, a globally renowned ancient and modern international metropolis. According to the consul general, today Beijing is developing the functions of an international exchange center and annually hosts major international events.

In February of this year, the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, jointly with the Beijing city government, organized the first event on the theme “Big Market for All: Export to China” in 2026. Kazakhstan opened its own pavilion and presented samples of export products, and was also invited as one of the countries — thematic partners of the event “Export to China.”

The article notes that about 50 km from Beijing Daxing International Airport is the government-created new district of Xiongan, established 9 years ago. Its task is the redistribution of non-core capital functions of Beijing. “At present, a new city Alatau is also being built in the Almaty region. The high-quality development of the Xiongan district creates favorable conditions for the exchange of experience between China and Kazakhstan in the field of new city construction,” the diplomat writes.

Shanxai is a city under the central jurisdiction of the country, a national center of economics, finance, trade, shipbuilding, and scientific and technological innovation. As stated in the article, in June 2025 Shanxai and Almaty became sister cities. During the following year, the heads of the city administrations made mutual visits, and in July 2025 a direct air route between them was opened. Both parties make maximum effective use of available advantages and resources, jointly writing a brilliant chapter in the history of regional cooperation.

Su Fancu noted that during the 8th China International Import Expo, Kazakhstan was represented in four exhibition zones, with more than 100 manufacturers participating. For the first time, Almaty opened a separate pavilion. In recent years, the volume of contracts concluded by Kazakhstani companies at the expo has exceeded 306.5 million US dollars, which fully demonstrates the high level of trade and economic cooperation between the two sides.

He also indicated that at the business forum “Almaty – Shanghai” in April of this year, companies from two countries signed 12 agreements in the fields of trade and investment, biomedicine and automotive engineering — areas where cooperation is constantly expanding. The 1 GW capacity wind power project “Mirny” in Kazakhstan, implemented by an international consortium consisting of Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd and the Kazakh company LLP “GCD Partner,” has become the largest project in renewable energy in the country and an example of green industrial cooperation.

At the same time, the China-Kazakhstan logistics base in Lianyungang (Jiangsu Province, East China), as a flagship project of the “Belt and Road” initiative, provided Kazakhstan with a direct route to the Pacific Ocean, the author added.

According to him, the Central Asian countries center in Xi’an was transformed from a regional trade center into a platform for cooperation for the unrestricted trade format “China – Central Asia.” It includes such state representations as the Center for Trade Policy Development of Kazakhstan, as well as a number of Kazakh enterprises. Thus, a chain of cooperation is formed from the regional to the state level, from logistics to industry.

“From the coast of the East China Sea to the shores of the Caspian Sea, cooperation within the urban cluster of the Yangtze Delta with Kazakhstan is transitioning from point successes to comprehensive development, from prioritizing logistics to a multi-dimensional model of trade, industry, finance, and humanitarian relations, continuing to demonstrate powerful growth potential,” concluded the Consul General of China in Almaty.
