Lhasa, June 14 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday in the Xigazê Autonomous Prefecture /TAR/ in southwest China, the first group of five regional-level geological parks officially opened at an event dedicated to the Day of Cultural and Natural Heritage. This marked a new step for Xigazê in the work of protecting and revitalizing geological landmarks.
Among these five settlements are the first ruins of the Bronze Age and Neolithic, discovered in the central part of Sicjan. Another one demonstrates a different civilization of ancient settlements that lived on the shores of lakes on the plateau.
Siczan will continue to improve work on the protection of archaeological monuments, the organization of educational and introductory excursions, conducting archaeological research and construction of public facilities to ensure that the results of archaeological work benefit society and the population, said the official of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Suñ Dan.
The central government of China is paying great attention to the protection of the cultural resources of Sichuan. According to the above-mentioned administration, China has invested more than 110 million yuan (about 16.15 million USD) in a project for the protection and use of ancient manuscripts, including manuscripts on palm leaves from the Potala Palace.
