Almaty, June 11 /Xinhua/ — The government of Kazakhstan will allocate 3 million US dollars annually from 2025 to 2029 for the operation of the Regional Center of the United Nations for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in the city of Almaty. This was reported on Thursday by the Kazinform news agency.

Senators / the upper chamber of parliament / of Kazakhstan on Thursday signed a law ratifying the agreement and memorandum between Kazakhstan and the UN on the establishment in Almaty of a UN Regional Center.

As noted at the conclusion of one of the Senate committees, the Regional Center is intended to strengthen coordination in achieving sustainable development goals among the countries of the region, increase the effectiveness of technical assistance programs, exchange experience and analytical support, as well as strengthen cooperation between Kazakhstan, the UN, and regional states. Within the framework of the Center, two bodies will be established — the Advisory Council and the International Advisory Committee.

The resolution on the establishment of the Center for the Initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on March 4, 2025. –0–
