“RN-Yuganskneftegaz” (the largest oil-producing asset of “Rosneft”) in partnership with the children’s technopark “Quantorium” is implementing the educational program “Center of Knowledge: from Traditions to the Future.” The project is designed to combine advanced engineering knowledge and the ethno-cultural heritage of the region, providing young residents of remote areas with access to in-demand technological IT competencies.

The pilot site for the educational initiative became the Ugutsk boarding school – one of the region’s key educational institutions, providing year-round residence and systematic education from September to May to children among the Indigenous peoples of the North.

The first substantive module of the program was an in-depth introduction for students to three-dimensional modeling technologies. Under the guidance of an experienced mentor, the pupils mastered the basic principles of engineering design and created their first volumetric digital objects.

Acquired competencies are not only key for choosing a promising profession in the fields of IT, engineering, and architecture, but also have practical value for everyday life on remote ancestral lands. For example, young residents of the settlements can independently design and manufacture indispensable parts and equipment in traditional fishing and hunting.

Even after the school year ends, when students return to their homes, they will be able to continue their studies. Now, classes for indigenous children will be held online right at the campsites. Together with teachers and students of the summer engineering camp based at Quantorium, they will develop their projects. The final event of the educational program will be an exhibition of joint works and achievements.

An integral part of the initiative is the formation of a full-fledged remote educational environment directly on the territory of ancestral lands. Oil workers will equip a camp participating in training with a specialized hardware-software complex, which will include high-precision 3D printers, consumable materials, and a portable computer with broadband internet access.Such a solution provides constant access to the resources of the children’s technology park and allows schoolchildren to participate alongside their urban peers in joint engineering and cultural-educational events regardless of the time of year and place of residence.
